CHSP Home Modifications

TPG Aged Care provide services to undertake Home Modification Projects under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).

The CHSP Home Modifications Program was set up to support older people to live independently and safely in their own homes for as long as possible.   The program provides funding for modifications and minor adaptations to the homes of eligible older Australians, enhancing accessibility and reducing hazards.   The ultimate objective is to improve the quality of life for older individuals by enabling them to remain safely in familiar surroundings while maintaining their independence and dignity.

Older people who are seeking to live in their own home safely will be able to take advantage of both major and minor home modifications.

Minor modifications include examples such as the installation of:

  • grab rails
  • handrails
  • handheld showers
  • the manufacture of customised ramps, chair raisers and box steps.

Major home modifications must be clinically justified, and can include:

  • bathroom redesign (eg lowering or removal of shower hobs, changes to design lay out to improve accessibility)
  • kitchen redesign (eg lowering kitchen bench tops changes to design layout to improve accessibility)
  • widening doorways and passages (eg to allow wheelchair access).

The services are available to eligible people and a small contribution may be charged in accordance with the Commonwealth National Contribution Policy.

If you think you need these services to remain living independently at home, you can submit an enquiry directly to My Aged Care by calling 1800 200 422 or visiting myagedcare.gov.au.
